Meet the Artist
I have called Sonoma home since 2013. Growing up in Washington State, I was surrounded by mountains and farmland. My grandfather and father were builders, which sparked my early interest in working with wood and natural materials—while I collected rocks, seashells, and fibers along the way. From my grandmothers and mother, who sewed our clothing and quilted, I inherited a love for color and textiles.
As a young adult, I took drawing and watercolor courses at community college, and more recently, classes in printmaking at the Sonoma Community Center have inspired my latest art pieces. For many years I was drawn to the works of impressionists and to the fluid, single-line drawings of Van Gogh, Picasso, and Matisse. Now, as I step into retirement, I embrace this new chapter as an adventure to explore, discover, and create.
When I begin a piece, I let my imagination guide me and listen to my inner voice. At times, I’ll start with a poem that captures what I’m feeling before I begin, allowing both words and images to shape the work that follows.
